OctPoWriMo Poem 13 – Dream Animals

Every night he dreamt
That the animals came out from the dim woods
Crossed through the fence that separated his farm
From the wilderness,
Breath huffing quietly in the winter cold
And waited, patient as shadows

While he dreamt he was one of them
Dreamt he could cross back
Into the woods with them
And dreaming, turned toward them
Until just before first light
And they crossed back
And he awoke
